What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a kind of tooth restoration used to replace a missing tooth or several adjacent missing teeth. It is an artificial tooth root that can support a crown or a denture.
The dental implant looks like a screw and is made of titanium, which has a couple of advantages. First off, titanium is biocompatible, which means the body won’t reject it. Second, it can fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. The titanium will also stimulate the patient’s body to produce more bone cells around the implant and thus strengthen the jaw. Osseointegration takes several months.
