What are porcelain veneers?

Any veneer, whether it is a thin layer of wood on the coffee table or a thin layer of porcelain on the teeth is just that; a thin shield that is placed over an object or material. Porcelain veneers in Montreal are used to cover the front of a tooth, that part which is visible to others. The veneer is designed to be a permanent fix; it covers any minor damage to the tooth and is very beneficial to improving one’s smile.

The process explained:

There are at least two appointments necessary to complete the application of porcelain veneers in Montreal. The first appointment is dedicated to cleaning the teeth and taking impressions of your teeth. The impressions are used to make a hard model of the teeth in question, every minor detail or imperfection of the teeth show up. The mold is sent to a dental lab where the veneers are made. Depending on the situation and the patient, a set of temporary veneers are made which are replaced when the final veneers are available.

During this first appointment, as well as taking the impressions, choosing the shade is the next step. This is actually the exciting part of the whole procedure as it will satisfy your expectations. Many people select a shade which the dentist knows from experience will not truly enhance the looks of the patient as it may be too stark against the complexion or other reasons. If you are not having veneers on all your teeth, it is important that the shade you select is complimentary to your natural teeth which will be side by side with the veneers.

In a matter of a week or so the dentist will reschedule you for the fitting of your new porcelain veneers in Montreal. The dentist will first place them on your teeth to look for any flaws, once the dentist is satisfied; the veneers are cemented in place with a special dental resin.

Before the veneers are actually glued on, the dentist will wash the teeth with water and then a mild acid solution which etches the tooth and makes the surface rough. If this step is not done, the adhesion of the veneer to the tooth will not be satisfactory.

For the first few days your teeth will be a little sensitive to both hot and cold food and drinks but after a short period of time, all you will see is a beautiful smile.

Porcelain veneers in Montreal are one of the many cosmetic procedures that are offered by Retter Dental Care.
