Installing drywall, paneling, cabinetry, etc that is designed for permanence is one thing, installing signs, cabinets, panels, artwork, etc that is intended to be eventually removed or relocated is something else again.
Permanent fastenings are nails, screws and different adhesives. The panel is held against a vertical stud and affixed. Once the panel is up, it is up for good and the only way to remove it is to destroy it. Although this is common during the actual construction of a building, there are many things that need to be hung and supported but done in such a way that they can easily be removed.
The method employed for hanging objects on the wall can vary depending a great deal on what it is that is to be hung. A picture is one thing; a mirror is something else again. Although they are both flat objects they need to be suspended differently due to weight and fragility. Mirrors are often fastened with corner clips made of plastic; pictures are often supported by firings in the wall surface and taught wire fixed to the frame. Other than using a panel clip, there are possible problems with other methods. Pictures are difficult to get horizontal and to stay as such and as the entire weight of the picture is taken by one fastener; it is easy to misjudge and use a fastener which is not strong enough to support the weight.
A panel clip is the ideal solution for hanging, fastening and securing acoustical panels, partitions, cabinets, signs, works of art and mirrors to a wall. One of the nice things about a panel clip, other than for the strength is the fact that they stay concealed after the installation is completed.
A panel clip consists of an aluminum extrusion in the shape of the letter “Z”, the extrusion is available in different lengths for different
purposes. The clips are used as a pair; one clip is fastened to the wall, the other to the piece which is to be suspended. The extrusions are available plain or pre drilled for fastening purposes. When the piece to be hung is installed, the one panel clip slides into the mating clip, producing a very strong suspension assembly.
Using a panel clip is the ideal solution for suspending just about anything on a vertical surface. Panel clips and rails are available in smooth or cleated surfaces from Eagle Mouldings.
