Are you driving a “lemon”? Most people believe that a “lemon” is a car that has issues over a short period of time. Although this is true, they might not know there are laws in place to protect buyers them from this. These laws are called lemon laws, and vary by state.

What Should I Do If I Believe I Am Driving a Lemon?

First and foremost, be sure to keep a record of communications that occur between yourself and the dealer. Doing so can be used as evidence of repairs, or lack thereof. Next, you will want to contact a Michigan lemon law attorney to help you file a claim.

Does Michigan Have Lemon Laws?

Michigan does have lemon laws that protect buyers from buying defective vehicles. In order to make a claim, the following must be true:

1. The vehicle must be in its first year of possession by the original owner.

2. The vehicle must be covered under manufacturer warranty.

3. The same problem has not been repaired after four tries by a mechanic or dealership, or your vehicle has been inoperable for 30 days.

What Happens If My Car Is Determined To Be a Lemon?

If your vehicle meets the above criteria, you may be eligible for compensation in the form of a refund. You may also have the option of turning in your defective vehicle for one that is similar.
