Hiking The Inca Trail: Sometimes Difficult, Always Rewarding

The Incas continue to fascinate people around the world. The extent of this interest manifests itself in a number of ways. For many, the most feasible way of expressing their interest is by a trip to Machu Picchu. They arrive by air at the airport in Lima, Peru. They then take the bus or fly to Cusco. From there, they make their way to one of the many routes winding its way to this UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the most popular courses and a sure way of seeing the sunrise above Machu Picchu is the Inca Trail.

The Options

For some people, the trip to Machu Picchu is a cultural visit. They see it as one more place to check off on their bucket list. Others view it as a pilgrimage. The final destination is Machu Picchu, but what matters for this latter group is how they get there. While the former group may simply hop on the train, the latter prefers to opt to experience this journey through Incan Peru.

The 27-mile Inca Trail originally cut through the rich Amazon rainforest and the snowcapped, rugged Andes Mountains as, perhaps, a sacred walk to Machu Picchu, allows trekkers to combine what pleasures the route has to offer with the satisfaction of knowing the architectural magnificence of Machu Picchu is at the end. For those who decide on a four or five-day hike, the journey may be challenging, but rewarding – perhaps almost as much as the visit to the city of Machu Picchu itself will be.

Hiking the Inca Trail

Arguably, the hike may be arduous for some. Indeed, the change in altitude can affect the capacity of many. However, if you take the right precautions and work with an authorized and reputable tour group, you can hike the Inca Trail and enjoy what this journey brings and where it finally takes you in Peru.
