High Flying Science And Testing

by | Nov 24, 2015 | Electronics and Electrical

Flying causes anxiety for most people. At takeoff, armrest’s durability are tested by the passengers and when the wheels finally touch down on the other side, everyone, be it a silent one, sigh in relief of making it safely to their destination. And while everyone has heard the statistic that you are much more likely to get in an accident in a car on your way to the airport than you are to get in an accident on a plane, it still can be a jarring experience. And why not? Air travel is not something we do every day. The reason you’re more likely to get in an automobile accident is due to the number of cars and drivers on the road. Flying and performance of modern aircraft and travel is a science that is largely if not wholly dependent on proper testing.

Testing 123, Testing Do You Copy

An airplane’s electrical systems and subsystems can be thought of as its circulatory system. Without it, the major components of the plane cannot transmit the proper power or information for the system to work harmoniously. For this reason, the installation, testing and maintenance of a plane’s wiring must be done with the utmost respect and attention. Often times, because of its efficiency and reliability, a multi-phase power source is needed to do regular voltage checks and other power related inspections.

A reliable and constant power source when troubleshooting aircraft electrical circuits is ideal.

Controlling A Power Source

To better understand if a circuit has an open or a short, a mechanic must first determine the relationship between resistance and current flow, something they will have a great deal of trouble with without a proper multi-phase power source. Resistance simply tells a mechanic how much current flows under a given voltage. The greater the circuit resistance, the less the current and naturally the opposite is true, reduced resistance results in an increase in current. This is the basic principle that helps mechanics solve much more complex issues in diagnosing problems in aircraft’s circuit boards.

Flying Safely

Engineering and science in general is not pop music or Snapchat. It is neglected and today’s scientists, engineers and mechanics are worried about that not enough students today are getting the early science exposure needed to produce the scientists of tomorrow. Aircraft testing and developing are just one of hundreds of applications of science that students can get into with the proper guidance and encouragement.
