What could be more fun than an Irish Pub that has the atmosphere of Ole Dublin, and where the Guinness beer almost flows like water. A pint never stays empty long in an Irish Pub. The Dublin Square Irish Pub is as authentic as they come in America, and the Irish food is even better.
The authenticity of an Irish Pub is not only found in the flowing Guinness, but also in the atmosphere that must replicate the spirit of an Irish Pub. If it doesn’t have a Darts game, then there is some question about its authenticity.
Depending on who is telling the story, there is recorded history of Darts being played as early as 1503. However, the game never reached the official status of a sport until Sport England, on the 3rd June 2005 Sport Wales, Sport Northern Ireland and Sport Scotland reached unanimous agreement that Darts is to be recognized as a sport.
However, in many pubs including those in America, it is a sport but an amateurish effort at entertainment. This is not to undermine the game. After all a British gentleman, Patrick Chapin, is known as Dr. Darts after he was awarded a PhD in the game of Darts. Dr. Darts is fondly known throughout the isles.
Downtown La Crosse, WI, where the Dublin Pub is located, appears to have been lifted from Ireland and transported intact to LaCrosse, where over 12 percent of the population is Irish. Interestingly, the Amtrak station is located on St. Andrews Street. Hard to tell if that is an indication of an invitation to the city for those of Irish heritage.
LaCrosse doesn’t have too many places that serve alcoholic beverages so maybe that is left to the Dublin Pub that does a good job of it. Downtown LaCrosse is located on the Mississippi River. During the last half of the 19th century, LaCrosse became the center of the brewing industry.
Today, the City Brewing Company in LaCrosse produces beer and even Mikes Hard Lemonade in the former G. Heileman Brewing Company brewery. Several beer products are produced there today including Sam Adams. However, not even one Irish brew is made there. Surprisingly, the City Brewing Company is not one of the largest employers owing no doubt to the lack of Irish beer production.
Regardless, La Crosse is a beautiful city.
