Benefits of Electric Strikes

While consumer looking for an electric option can choose between electric locks or electric strikes, there are advantages to strikes that many may not be aware of. Here are some of the many benefits one can expect to receive when they choose electric strikes over electric locks.

* If the frame of the door is absent of concrete filler, the electric strike is much quicker to install versus an electric lock.

* When the door has a rim exit device, the electric strike has a safety advantage due to the fact that the stop on the frame of the door protects the latch. It also produces much less noise than when using an electric latch retraction.

* Electric strikes are far more cost-efficient than electric locks, not only because of the cost of the base product but because of the reduced labor involved in installing the strike over the lock.

* Most electric door locks cannot be used in conjunction with automatic door openers. This is not the case with electric door strikes. Almost all of them can work seamlessly with door openers of the automatic variety.

Electric strikes are commonly available in two different types, these being fail-secure and fail-safe. The differences are as follows:

* Fail-secure strikes are also known as non-fail-safe strikes. They can be opened with the application of a direct current of electricity. If a power failure were to occur, the strike would remain locked but the mechanical lock could still be used to open the door from the interior of the room. They can be powered by either alternating current or direct current.

* Fail-safe strikes are also known as fail-open. They are able to be locked with the application of an electric current. In the event of a power outage, the door would be able to be manually opened simply by pushing it it pulling it. Fail-safes are always operated using a direct current of electricity.
