A CNC Plasma Cutting Table: The Necessary Components

by | May 23, 2017 | Machining Manufacturer

If you plan to put together a plasma cutting system, you need to consider the quality and function of all the components. From the machine that produces the actual plasma to the CNC plasma table, software, and ventilation system, all require the utmost attention if the system is to provide the type of efficient and precise productive service a company requires. Putting it all together may seem formidable, but it is necessary.

The CNC Plasma System

No matter what type of system you and your company decide to look at, it will possess the following basic and essential components

Computer Numerical Control (CNC):  The CNC acts as the intelligence for the system. It provides instructions to several components of the plasma system including the cutter and the machine that controls height. It takes the cutting program and translates it into electrical instructions.

Mechanical Components: These consist of several parts including:

  • Gantry (long axis)
  • Torch carriage
  • Torch height control (X, Y, and Z axis)

These exist on both large industrial CNC plasma cutting table systems and lightweight machinery. The major differences are not only size but also durability and preciseness. Large industrial machines tend to consist of more sturdy components than the smaller (entry-level) machines. Furthermore, lightweight machines tend to utilize stepper motors; the heavy industrial plasma systems rely on the more powerful servo engines with their wider torque range and speeds. The latter plasma cutting systems face less tough and powerful demands. Another important difference to many companies and individuals is the cost. Lightweight components and systems are less expensive than the industrial machines.

Fume Control System: All systems require some form of fume control.

CNC Plasma Table

Searching for a suitable system is a difficult task. It is not, however, impossible if you know what you want and understands the basics. This will make finding and installing the right CNC plasma cutting table system relatively painless.
