There are many iconic locations to visit in Italy. One of the most famous areas to visit is the picturesque lakes around the country and here is a quick guide to some that you can visit on an Italian lakes tour.
Lake Como
Lake Como offers a mix of experiences depending on what personally appeals to you. The town of Como itself is a modern town that is worth visiting in and of itself, but in terms of the scenery that people associate with this area it is worth heading out to Menaggio and the most northern points of the lake (Gravedonia and Colico).
Lake Maggiore
In the 19th century, Lake Maggiore became fashionable for wealthy families who wanted a getaway from the city. The second largest of the five lakes behind Lake Como, it nonetheless still excels in terms of beautiful villas and gorgeous scenery.
Lake Lugano
If you are a sports enthusiast, Lake Lugano is ideal as you can hike among the mountains, go on mountain bike trails as well as watersports such as windsurfing. If that seems a bit too physical, the Michelin starred restaurant and art gallery, Restaurant Gallery Arté al Lago is for you.
Lake Iseo
As a charming place to visit, Lake Iseo offers small towns and villages with some fascinating places to see such as Olofredi Castle and the Parish Church of Sant’ Andrea.
