Prior to getting started, it is crucial that the installer follows all of the guidelines for safety and personal protection equipment to install or repair natural gas regulators. Regulators are designed and tested to meet industry and government safety standards from the date of manufacture. The end user has to comply with regulations related to installation, application, operation, and use. It is recommended that natural gas regulators only be installed by a qualified professional.
Installation Process
Begin by taking all of the shipping plugs out of the vent, outlet, and inlet of the regulator. Be sure to keep all dirt and debris, as well as any Teflon tape or chemical sealant, out of the outlet, regulator inlet, and piping interior. Otherwise, it will result in loss of pressure control.
Joint sealant needs to be applied to the male pipe threads. The sealant should never be applied to the female pipe threads on natural gas regulators. If any joint sealant becomes lodged in the gas regulator, this will also result in a loss of pressure control.
Gas has to flow through the valve body of natural gas regulators in the direction shown by the arrow on the body of the regulator. If the gas flows in the wrong direction, the regulator could be damaged, and an over-pressure situation may occur.
Keeping Your Gas Regulators Clear
It is important to always keep natural gas regulators clear. In fact, it could save lives. Many homes use natural gas for heating. The round, pancake-shaped regulator makes certain that the gas flows into the appliances at the proper pressure.
All natural gas regulators have a vent that makes it possible for the device to breathe during operation. It also acts as a pressure relief opening in the event of over-pressure conditions. The vent must remain free of ice, snow, water, debris, insects, and dirt.
