Despite the fact that there are a significant number of standards sizes and configurations in ball valves already on the market, there may be a need to select a custom valve for a specific application or use requirement.
This is most often the case for OEMs or repair professionals working on custom equipment or building new systems or equipment. When working with ball valve manufacturers for custom orders, there are several important factors to know before designing your valve.
Configuration Type
There are several different options in ball valves, and not all ball valve manufacturers may offer all options. Most commonly the two way ball valve is used for flow control through a system, but three, four and five way valves can be used for both flow control as well as flow direction.
Within these configurations, there are additional options to consider. By knowing the specifications of the end types, the placement of the ball control lever and the specific size requirements of the valve, ordering is easy. End types can include smooth, barbed, tapered, push to connect, or male and female ends.
Materials
The best ball valve manufacturers provide customers with the option to choose the ideal material for the valve body and components based on the specific use. This may include a range of different plastics including PVC, Polypropylene, PVDF, nylon or other options.
Seal options are based on the type of material through the system. Different options in the seal material from neoprene to Buna or ethylene propylene provide resistance to chemicals, heat, and pressure. The choice of the seal is based on the specific valve application.
Additionally, metal ball valves are typically made of either brass or stainless steel, with the same types of end requirements and seal options.
