1. Select the Fabric
The first step is to select the fabric that you will use on your walls. It is best to visit a shop and purchase some assorted back fabrics, and then hang them on your wall using tape to check how they look. To adhere properly to the wall, the fabric must have an acrylic backing. You can choose from grass cloth, silk, linen, mylar, bamboo textiles or burlap.
2. Prepare the Wall
Once you have ordered your fabric wallcovering, the next step is to prepare the wall. The surface of the wall must be smooth and completely clean for the wallcovering to hang properly. Use a smoothing tool in order to comb the wall so that any bumps are removed. Then, use a spackle knife in order to fill all nail and screw holes with spackle. Once the filling has dried up, you will need to sand the wall. It is recommended that you use 120- grit sandpaper. Then, wipe the wall clean with a damp rag, so that all dust particles are removed. Apply a wallcovering primer, and let it dry.
3. Paste the Wall
Once the primer has dried, you will need to paste the wall with non- staining adhesive. It is best to use a paint brush in order to cover every inch of the wall.
4. Apply the Fabric
Once the wall is done, the next step is to apply the wallcovering. Make sure you have cut the wallcovering properly so that the design overlaps smoothly on each strip. Apply carefully, and cut all excess parts using a utility knife. Once the wallcovering has been applied, you will need to let it dry for at least a day. And, you are done!
